IMPORTANT NOTICE - 2010 MUNICIPAL ELECTION

Vote by Mail will be the method of voting for the upcoming Municipal Election, October 25th, 2010.

Voter kits will be mailed out to eligible voters on September 28th, 2010.

The Municipal Office, 7 Milne Street, Minden, will be open on the Thanksgiving weekend, for election purposes only, Saturday, October 9th, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for eligible voters to:

a) return their completed ballot

b) be added to the Voters List (with proper identification)

c) receive a Voters Kit if the voters kit has been lost or has not been received

d) accommodate voters unable to attend during regular business hours – local & seasonal residents welcome!

Voters are encouraged to drop off their completed ballot to the Ballot Return Station, 2nd floor, 7 Milne Street or to utilize the locked drop off box at the municipal office.

Notice to Members of the Public Wishing to Serve on Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee

The Clerk invites applications from members of the public who are interested in serving on the Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee for the Township of Minden Hills.

Bill 212 has made certain amendment to the Municipal Elections Act 1996, as amended, one of which is the requirement for Council to appoint a Compliance Audit Committee. The Committee must be appointed no later than October 1st, 2010.

The Township of Minden Hills Compliance Audit Committee has full delegation of the authority in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, to address applications requesting an audit of a candidate's election campaign finances. This authority includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Review applications and grant or reject audit requests
Where an audit is granted, appoint an auditor and review the audit report
Where indicated, decide whether legal proceedings shall be commenced.

The Compliance Audit Committee will consist of three members appointed by Council. Committee members must have the ability to understand and apply the election campaign finance provisions of the Municipal Elections Act and should be considered impartial with respect to their ability to fulfill their responsibilities. Preference shall be given to applicants who have applicable experience in accounting, law, law enforcement and academics from related fields. Remuneration is set at $75.00/meeting.

Members of the public interested in serving on this Committee are asked to submit an application on the prescribed form, along with a resume, to the Clerk's Department no later than Noon on Wednesday, July 30th, 2010. Please mark confidential.

Of 12,410 potential voters in Minden Hills, 2,137 have unconfirmed citizenship!

The 2010 Municipal Election is being held Monday, October 25th, 2010.

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation will be sending out Municipal Enumeration Forms on April 30th, 2010. The information collected is essential for the preparation of the Preliminary List of Electors for the 2010 municipal and school board election. For 2010, to qualify to be an elector, a person must confirm they are a Canadian citizen.

To ensure you will be on the Voters List please complete the Municipal Enumeration Form and return it to MPAC by June 1st, 2010.

WHO is Eligible to Vote in the Township of Minden Hills Municipal Election?
Eligible voters must be qualified as outlined in Section 17 of the Municipal Elections Act.
On Voting Day, you must be:
A Canadian Citizen
At least 18 years of age
A resident of Minden Hills, or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the Township of Minden Hills or their spouse
Not prohibited from voting

WHEN is the Municipal Election?
Bill 212 received Royal Assent on December 15th, 2009. The 2010 Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 25th, 2010.
Other changes in the bill include:
Promoting greater accessibility to the election process for voters and candidates with disabilities
Bringing greater transparency to the voting process by requiring voter identification
Creating a new contribution limit per contributor
