Subject: Programs and Activities at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre in September and October 2024
The Minden Hills Museum & Heritage Village and Nature’s Place are open for visitors to enjoy our exhibits and drop-in programming activities until the Thanksgiving weekend. We are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Pre-registration is not required, and admission is by donation. All ages are welcome for all the activities, unless specified.
Wildlife Craft: Children (5 - 14 years old) are welcome to join our craft session to create animals, birds, and insects using materials easily accessible at home or school. Available every Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m.
Toddler Discovery Zone: Each Friday after the Family Storytime program at the Haliburton County Public Library (HCPL) - Minden Branch, a toddler-friendly (0-5 years old) program will take place in Nature’s Place or the Welch Room. Available every Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Hands-on Saturday: Everybody is welcome to “Hands-on Saturday”, where you will get your hands dirty and experiment with art and science. From volcanic eruption experiments to rock painting, there's an activity for everyone. Available every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Mid-Autumn Festival Crafts: Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with us by crafting traditional lanterns and exploring the basics of Chinese calligraphy. Discover the rich history and cultural significance of this festival, celebrated by East Asians and diaspora communities worldwide. Join us on Tuesday, September 17 from 3 to 4 p.m.
Documentary Screening: The Cultural Centre and the HCPL – Minden Branch are hosting a free screening of “Inconvenient Indian,” a documentary based on Thomas King's book, exploring the history of Indigenous peoples in North America and the ongoing impact of colonization. No pre-registration is required. Two screenings will be held on Thursday, September 26, at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
