The Township of Minden Hills is looking for an energetic and motivated individual to join our Public Works team as a Full-Time Equipment Operator. This role offers a dynamic work environment, supporting construction, maintenance, and winter operations that keep our community moving safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate various equipment to perform construction activities, snow/ice removal, and road, bridge, culvert, and drainage maintenance.
- Assist with general roadworks maintenance and repair projects.
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment while adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
Hours & Compensation:
- Full-time, unionized position: 42 hours per week, with hours subject to change seasonally.
- Pay: $28.81/hour (per LOCAL 4286 Collective Agreement – Schedule “A”)
- Earnings subject to union dues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma (Grade 12)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating at least two of the following: Backhoe, Loader, Grader, Excavator, plus either a Tandem or Single Axle Truck
- Strong understanding of road construction and maintenance procedures
- Class D’Z’ driver’s license with ability to maintain
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years’ experience operating a Grader (or willingness to complete training)
- Experience with Tandem Axle Truck
- Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook
- TJ Mahoney Road School coursework certificates
- Surface Miner training (or willingness to obtain)
Assets:
- Chainsaw training
- Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 certification
- First Aid & CPR/AED
Work Environment:
This position requires performing construction and maintenance projects in extreme weather conditions, with moderate to heavy physical demands, including exposure to dirt, dust, oil, grease, noise, vibration, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
Selection Process:
Applicants may be required to complete written, practical and/or technical testing as part of the interview process.
Upon final selection, the successful applicant will be required to provide, at their own expense, a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check from the Ontario Provincial Police or appropriate police force as well as a clean Driver’s Abstract.
