The Township of Minden Hills is seeking a motivated and reliable individual to join our Public Works Department as a Waste Facilities Operator. Reporting to the Manager of Waste Facilities, this position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the Township landfill, including site maintenance and ensuring compliance with operational procedures.
Position Details
- Status: Permanent, Part-Time
- Hours: Up to twenty-four (24) hours per week, typically Saturday and Sunday (subject to change). Shifts will fall between 7:30 AM and 7:00 PM, depending on seasonal hours of operation.
- Rate of Pay: $28.81 per hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year recent experience in the same or similar position.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience operating at least two (2) of the following is required; backhoe, excavator, loader, roll-off truck, tandem axle truck, single axle truck, pick-up with plow.
- Certifications and training from Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) or equivalent, or willingness to obtain.
- Bear Awareness training, or willingness to obtain.
- A good understanding of waste facility operations and maintenance procedures and the ability to identify construction and maintenance deficiencies.
- Possession and ability to keep a valid “DZ” Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid standard First Aid & CPR/AED certification is an asset.
- Certificate in Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 is an asset.
- Chainsaw training is an asset.
Additional Information:
- This position requires outdoor work in all weather conditions and exposure to environmental hazards.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide, at their own expense, a current Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) or appropriate police service prior to final selection.
