Subject: Field Trip for Burner Herzog Exhibit
Join us on September 7, 2024 for a field trip to the original sawdust burner that inspired Burner Herzog, an exhibit by local artists Gary Blundell and Victoria Ward, now on display at the Agnes Jamieson Gallery until November 23.
Near Gary and Victoria’s log home is an abandoned sawdust burner, the last one believed to be still standing in Ontario. This abandoned burner is a ‘vestigial’ implement that the logging industry used regularly to incinerate the sawdust made from processing cut trees. Gary and Victoria work towards illuminating the idea that industry and landscape are intertwined. These types of abandoned structures have long been a major subject matter of their artwork.
Our field trip will start at the Agnes Jamieson Gallery at 10 a.m. for a tour of the exhibit with Gary and Victoria. At 11 a.m. we will individually drive to Deep Roots Adventure, on Elephant Lake Road near the east gates of Algonquin Park, for lunch. Following lunch, Gary and Victoria will lead a hike to the site of the Burner.
The fee is $25.00 per person. Pre-registration is required. Please email or call 705-286-3763 x 542 to register. The rain date is September 14.
The Agnes Jamieson Gallery is a public gallery with year-round visual exhibitions of local and regional art.
