Subject: August Drop-in Programs and Activities Schedule
The Minden Hills Museum & Heritage Village and Nature’s Place will continue to offer drop-in programs and events throughout August 2025. We’re open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No pre-registration is required, and admission is by donation. All materials are provided, and all ages are welcome. All programs are offered at 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted.
Heritage Workshops:
- Early Settler Baking: Join the second baking session to explore another early settler baking recipe and watch a baking demonstration in Bowron House - Tuesday, August 5.
- Multilingual Schoolhouse: Explore the Korean language and practice simple words and phrases inside our historic schoolhouse - Wednesday, August 6.
- Edu Kit: Household: Discover everyday household items and artifacts from early 20th-century homes - Wednesday, August 13.
- Cursive: Join us at the schoolhouse to learn cursive writing and become a pro! - Tuesday, August 26.
- Typewriter: Try your hand at an old-fashioned typewriter and learn how it changed communication! - Saturday, August 30.
- Butter in a Jar / Ice Cream Making: Experience early dairy traditions with basic ingredients. Butter in a Jar available on Friday, August 8 at 2 p.m., while Ice Cream making will be on Fridays, August 15 and 19 at 2 p.m.
Crafty Hands:
- Paper quilling: Roll, twist, and shape paper strips into amazing decorative art - Saturday, August 9.
- Hand Puppets: Create fun hand puppets to bring your stories to life - Saturday, August 16.
- Tie Dye: Twist, tie, and dye fabric to create vibrant patterns. (Bring your own plain white T-shirt.) - Thursday, August 21.
- Crocheting a Square: Learn to crochet a simple square, perfect for beginners and easy projects - Thursday, August 28.
Curious Minds:
- Animal Skull Detective: Enjoy our collection of animal skulls and discover how to identify them by their unique features - Thursday, August 7.
- Bee Curious: Discover common myths about bees, their role with humans, and make bee-themed crafts - Thursday, August 14.
- Watercolour Tryout: Explore basic watercolour techniques and create your own colorful artwork - Wednesday, August 20.
- Volcanoes: Learn how volcanoes form and experiment with creating your own eruptions - Saturday, August 23.
- What’s in the Garden?: Now that it’s almost the end of summer, do you recognize the plants in the garden? - Wednesday, August 27.
Toddler Discovery Zone:
Every Friday at 11 a.m., a toddler-friendly craft or program is available at Nature’s Place. Please feel free to drop in. Toddlers can explore, play, and discover through different fun activities!
Heritage Passport:
Pick up a Heritage Passport at our site— created in collaboration with My Haliburton Highlands—and earn a stamp each time you participate in any of our daily drop-in programs or special events between July 2 and August 30, 2025. Collect enough stamps to win prizes and enter a draw.
