The Township of Minden Hills has four operational cemeteries located throughout the Township. The Cemetery Office is located at 55 Parkside Street, Minden. The regular hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Cemetery inquires can be directed to (705) 286-1936 ext. 552 or ext.554. Appointments are strongly encouraged. 

The Corporation of the Township of Minden Hills is licenced under the Bereavement Authority of Ontario and owns and operates the following active cemeteries under Cemetery Operator Licence #3274058.

To provide a cared for safe space where families and loved ones can visit, the cemetery clean ups are scheduled each year as follows:

  • November 18 – 30
  • April 18 – 30 

Please note that wreaths, saddles, decorations and flowers that become significantly weathered, faded, damaged or moved from there placement, may be removed and disposed.

Cemeteries

As part of maintaining our cemeteries, Minden Hills Cemetery Staff are dedicated to excellent customer service and providing a courteous and caring environment, as well as addressing each family's specific needs.

Minden Cemetery is the largest cemetery within the township residing just outside the Village of Minden. Spanning several acres and backing into a forest, this cemetery supports both traditional burials and columbaria cremations.

Bethel is our smallest cemetery with graves dating back over 100 years. A beautiful log church resides on the property offering a historic charm to this quiet site.

North on Hwy 35, turn East (right) onto Horseshoe Lake Road, turn East (right) again onto Bethel Road.

Twelve Mile Cemetery features a picturesque view of Twelve Mile Lake and sits next to a church of the same name. The cemetery offers both traditional burials and a beautiful columbaria for cremations.

North on Hwy 35, turn West (left) onto Omagaki Road, turn North (right) onto Chambers Road.

Gelert Cemetery is set in a rural location next to an old railway line. With mature trees lining the back of the property, the cemetery offers a tranquil atmosphere.

East on South Lake Road, turn South (right) onto Gelert Road (County Road 1), turn East (left) onto Cemetery Road.

Cemetery Services

The following services are currently available by contacting the Community Services Department.

  • Full burial lots (permits one casket and two cremations or four cremations)
  • Cremation lots (permits up to two cremations)
  • Columbarium Niche (permits up to two cremations)

  • Add or remove interment rights holders
  • Transfer of interment rights to someone else

  • For full burial lots only
  • Included with a new purchase of interment rights in a full burial lot
  • Can be purchased for full burial lots where cornerstones were not included with purchase
  • Cornerstone Order Form

  • Written consent of interment rights holder(s) required; fees apply
  • Foundations required for upright monuments
  • Sod removals apply to flat markers to be placed flush with the grade
  • Consent for Monument Form

  • Initial niche engraving and year of passing engraving are available
  • Prescribed format to be followed
  • Columbarium Niche Lettering Order Form

Memorial trees and benches are available for purchase

The BAO's Consumer Information Guide: A Guide to Death Care in Ontario is a free consumer-protection information booklet.

The guide is written for families and the public to know their rights and responsibilities before entering into contracts with organizations that are licensed under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002. All licensees of the BAO are required to provide consumers with a copy of this guide.
