Subject: Daily Drop-in Programs at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre in August 2026
The Minden Hills Museum & Heritage Village and Nature’s Place continues to offer drop-in programming activities in August. All programs take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pre-registration is not required, and admission is by donation. The programs are best suited for ages 5 to 12.
Portable Memories Showcase: Explore fascinating artifacts from Minden Hills' past through our Portable Memories collection. Each showcase features a different selection of objects and photographs, offering new opportunities to discover local history and share stories. Dates: August 15, 27.
Master Gardeners Program: Learn from members of the Haliburton County Master Gardeners for a hands-on activity exploring plants and the natural world. Dates: August 6, 13.
Tin Punch Paper Craft: Mimic early settler art using simple tools and materials to punch patterns. Date: August 4.
Watercolour: Explore basic watercolour techniques and create your own colorful artwork. Date: August 5.
Embroidery: Learn simple embroidery techniques and create your own colourful design. Date: August 7.
Lino Print Making: Carve into a linoleum block and create your own art piece. Date: August 8.
Hand Puppet Craft: Create fun hand puppets to bring your stories to life. Date: August 11.
Scrapbooking: Create a collage from magazine cutouts. Date: August 12.
Bracelet Making: Make a simple bracelet to celebrate creativity and friendship. Date: August 14.
Cursive Writing 101: Join us at the schoolhouse to learn cursive writing and become a pro! Date: August 18.
Animal Skull Detective: Enjoy our collection of animal skulls and discover how to identify them by their unique features. Date: August 19.
Early Settler Baking: Explore early settler baking recipes and watch a baking demonstration in Bowron House. Date: August 20.
Ice Cream Making: Discover how ice cream was made before modern freezers and help create a delicious frozen treat using traditional methods. Date: August 21.
Victorian-era Wallpaper Making: Inspired by Bowron House, design your own Victorian-style wallpaper pattern. Date: August 22.
Butter Making: Learn how butter was traditionally made on the farm and help churn cream into butter the old-fashioned way. Date: August 25.
Tie Dye: Twist, tie, and dye fabric to create vibrant patterns. (Bring your own plain white T-shirt.) Date: August 26.
ATIP Drop-in: Learn from a representative of the Apple Tree Identification Project (ATIP) and discover the heritage apple trees found throughout the county. Date: August 28.
Bellows and Forge Craft: Build a miniature bellows inspired by the blacksmith shop. Date: August 29.
