    Subject: Declaration of a Significant Weather Event

    In response to an expected major freezing rain event in the area, The Township of Minden Hills, in conjunction with neighbouring municipalities and the County of Haliburton have declared a Significant Weather Event at 12:00 noon local time. This weather event will likely impact travel and services throughout the County. This declaration is made pursuant to Ontario Regulation 239/02, Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.

    The declaration may change how or when the Municipalities or County perform their maintenance operations and may increase the amount of time to bring the roads back to a state of repair. County and Municipal staff are advising residents to avoid driving, and if you must travel, please use extreme caution as the County and local Municipalities may not be able to meet their maintenance standards for roads due to ice accretion.

    SG Nesbitt Memorial Arena

    The arena is open today (Dec. 28) for regular hours.

    The arena will have a delayed opening on Monday Dec. 29, 2025 of 10:00 a.m.

    Morning pickle ball at the arena is cancelled for Dec. 29, 2025.

    Waste Disposal Sites

    All Waste Disposal sites are open regular hours today.

    The Scotch Line Landfill will have a delayed opening of 12:00 p.m. on Dec. 29

    Significant freezing rain expected this afternoon through early Monday morning.

    What: Freezing rain leading to icy surfaces. Ice accretion or build-up of 15 to 20 mm on some surfaces.

    When: This afternoon into Monday morning. 

    Additional information: Freezing rain is expected to begin late Sunday afternoon and continue overnight. The freezing rain may briefly change over to rain Monday morning as temperatures are expected to climb to just above the freezing mark.

    Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery. Travel will likely be hazardous and some routes will likely be impassable. Prolonged utility outages are likely.

    Non-essential travel should be avoided.
