Deputy Fire Chief

Your Opportunity to Make a Difference
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to fill an existing vacancy and join our team as the Deputy Fire Chief (DFC). Reporting to the Fire Chief, the DFC is responsible for the overall administration of safety, health and wellness, fire prevention and training programs within the Fire Department. Key responsibilities include the development and administration of the fire department’s training programs and providing public education activities. The DFC assumes overall command of the Fire Department, and fire scenes in the absence of the Fire Chief and as required.
The DFC acts as the Alternate Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) and in the event of an emergency, is a member of the Emergency Control Group and an active participant in municipal Emergency Management planning.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Accreditation through a National Fire Training Academy or technical school.
- NFPA certifications in: Firefighter Level 2, Apparatus/Operator, Fire Officer Level 1, and Fire Service Instructor Level 1.
- Valid Class “DZ” drivers licence for the Province of Ontario.
- First Aid and CPR-C certification.
- Five (5) years experience in a related position with progressively responsible emergency service, management, and incident command experience.
- Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing, to communicate effectively on the fire ground and in managing training programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing and delivering effective training programs.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience engaging volunteer firefighters.
- Proven ability to build and contribute to a healthy workplace.
- Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Word, Excel, etc.), fire training or other related software and database programs.
- Sound knowledge of current legislation, regulations, industry best practices, equipment, vehicles and resources used in fire services.
- Flexible, adaptable and responsive to change.
- Excellent planning, time-management and multi-tasking skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional NFPA certifications such as Technical Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, Ice Rescue, Low Angle Rope Rescue, Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Fire & Life Safety Educator, and Incident Safety Officer.
Additional Information:
This position involves a combination of office work, site visits and attending to emergency scenes that may require physical activity and exposure to hazardous environments, high stress situations and varying weather conditions. Travel is required, and work may be performed outdoors.

The salary range for this position is $76,007.30 to $89,268.54.
