Update Message #2 from Mayor Bob Carter on the State of Emergency

I am reaching out to provide an update on our current situation. As most of you know, it rained quite heavily here yesterday and the respite that was originally expected has now been altered. We will be getting more rain this coming week. The water continues to rise, so this emergency will continue. With everything that is going on it is hard to look into the future, but we already have people planning for the recovery phase.

I'm not going to try to thank everybody for all that they have done so far. That will be left to a future note so that I can have the complete list and not leave anybody out. The expression that it takes a village to accomplish things is modified during a state of emergency. It takes our village, the neighbouring villages and the province working together in a dozen different ways to handle all that is being thrown at us.

Minden Hills and Haliburton County have always prided themselves on working together to get things done. The positive spirit that has been exemplified by all the volunteers and staff who have put their heads down and just gone about the business of protecting people from the floods is being noted by the media and people far and wide. I am proud of that and I thank you all.

We still have plenty of work to do to get through this flooding and then we have an extended cleanup to prepare the community for what I hope to be a wonderful summer. We all deserve that.
