Subject: Township Declares State of Emergency – Flood Conditions

The Township of Minden Hills has declared a State of Emergency on April 14, 2026 at 12:45 p.m. in response to the flood conditions in the community and the escalating impacts to our community and infrastructure. 

This decision comes as the water level on the Gull River is increasing, and the forecasted weather over the next 5 to 10 days, which is calling for continued rain and warmer temperatures. 

Residents in areas that are susceptible to flooding should take necessary precautions to protect property and continue to monitor developing conditions. Our website will be updated as information becomes available. 

The Township of Minden Hills Emergency Operations Centre has been activated. Staff continue to work with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and Parks Canada regarding weather and flood conditions. Updates will be posted to the Township’s website www.mindenhills.ca and social media channels.

Road Conditions:

Township Roads impacted by rising water levels include washouts, water over the roadway, and ponding. There are several road closures and roads with restricted access noted below. This is a preliminary list and Township staff will continue to monitor roadways and updates regarding road conditions will be ongoing: 

Roads Closed

  • Bobcaygeon Road Closed from Winding Creek Road to Scotch Line Road (April 13, 2026)
  • Voicey Road Closed between Tulip Road and Blairhampton Road
  • Buller Road Closed at Clear Lake Road
  • Boyd Road Closed at Brady Lake Road 

Restricted Access

  • Invergordon Ave. - Water on the Road, access is available through the Arena back entrance.
  • Anson St. and McKnight Blvd. - Water over the road.
  • Devil’s Lake Rd. - One lane closed, local traffic only.
  • Orde Street- Water on Road, Local Traffic Only.
  • Hospitality Rd. - Water on the road.
  • Upper Dutch Line Rd/ - Washouts, one lane only. 

Avoid driving on any roadways that are underwater, as road conditions may be unstable and dangerous.

Self-Serve Sand and Sandbags

Residents are advised that self-serve sand and sandbags are available at the Minden Curling Club Parking Lot, located at 50 Parkside, Minden. 

This resource is self-serve, please remember to bring a shovel. Residents are encouraged to think of their neighbours, don’t forget about those around you that may have difficulty with this task. There will be some filled sandbags available on a first come, first served basis at this location. 

Check Your Sump Pump

Ensure the sump pit is clear of debris and that all electrical connections are plugged in correctly and that your sump pump is in working order. Check to ensure it is directed to a high point on your property that doesn’t redirect back into the home. 

Safety Reminders

The public is reminded to use caution around area lakes, rivers, creeks and other water sources such as ditches, as high water levels and swift currents can create unstable and hazardous conditions.

Residents are reminded to keep a close watch on weather conditions, regularly check for updated messages, exercise caution near fast-moving rivers and streams, and maintain close supervision of children and pets.
