Being a Minden Hills Volunteer Firefighter requires dedication, commitment, respect, integrity and courage. Our volunteer firefighters dedicate a large amount of time for both training and responding to emergency incidents. Your safety and that of your fellow firefighters, including the public, depends on the skills you will learn and more importantly maintain and improve. Volunteer firefighters are on call 365 days a year (including holidays), 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week.
Duties and Expectations
As a firefighter with the Township of Minden Hills Fire Department, you will be participating in several areas of fire department operations:
- fire suppression
- extrication at motor vehicle accidents
- first aid (including CPR and Automated External Defibrillation)
- fire prevention
- public education and awareness
- fire truck and equipment cleaning and maintenance
- fire hall and truck bay cleaning and maintenance
- regular and specialized training
- regular meeting nights

Mandatory Training Requirements |
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Standards for Professional Qualifications for Firefighter level one outlines the skills that a volunteer firefighter will achieve during recruit training. It is mandatory for all recruits that are not certified as a 1001 level 1 Firefighter to receive and be certified to this level within the first year on the department. |
